Disposal & Decomposition
Disposal & Decomposition
To ensure eco-friendly disposal, please follow these steps:
- Kraft Paper Wrapper: Remove and recycle in your paper recycling bin, as kraft paper is widely accepted by municipal recycling programs. You may also home or industrially compost them.
- Floss Pick: Our floss picks should be composted in an industrial composting facility, where they decompose faster under controlled conditions.
Decomposition Time
Wrapper:
- Home Compost: Decomposes in 2 to 5 weeks
- Industrial Composting: Decomposes in 1 to 4 weeks
- Natural Environment: Kraft paper generally decomposes within 2 to 6 months. Factors such as soil composition, moisture, environmental temperature, and microbial activity can influence the exact timeframe.
Floss Pick Handle:
- Industrial Composting: Decomposes within 3 to 6 months.
- Landfills: The decomposition rate is significantly slower in landfill environments, potentially taking several years due to anaerobic conditions.
Nylon-4 Thread:
- Industrial Composting: Nylon-4 can degrade within 6 to 12 months under optimal conditions.
- Landfills: Degradation in a landfill is slow, and it can take several years for the thread to break down significantly.
Note: The decomposition times can vary widely based on local environmental conditions and facility practices. We recommend using industrial composting the actual floss pick to minimize environmental impact.

FAQs
What Are Your Floss Threads Made From?
- We only use Nylon-4 for our toothbrush bristles and floss threads. Nylon-4 is a type of nylon made of biodegradable polymers. We use Nylon-4 because it's strong and durable, making it great for cleaning teeth.
- Rest assured, all our products are 100% natural, biodegradable, and safe for the earth!
Is Your Packaging Eco-Friendly?
The bags and the boxes are made from FSC-certified kraft paper and are fully compostable.
Do You Use PFA's?
- No PFAs or any toxins are used. Instead, we use PLA for manufacturing.
- PLA is biodegradable from renewable sources(sugar cane and corn starch). As a bioplastic, we hope it's the future of all plastic-based products.
Are The Floss Picks Gluten-Free
- Straw wheat comes from a non-gluten containing part of the plant. We only use the straw after the wheat has been harvested, which contains no gluten! Gluten is only found in the seeds, not the stalks, and the straw comes from the stalks.
- We've tested rigorously to ensure our floss picks are gluten-free and safe for use.
