Toothbrushes
To ensure eco-friendly disposal, please follow these steps:
- Remove Bristles: Use pliers to remove the nylon-4 bristles from the bamboo handle if home composting. Nylon-4 is not suitable for home composting as it can only degrade in a municipal compost setting.
- Compost the Handle: The bamboo handle can be composted in your home compost bin or a municipal composting facility. Breaking the handle into smaller pieces accelerates decomposition.
- Recycle or Industrial Compost Bristles: The bristles can be composted in a municipal compost facility or it should be placed in your recycling bin if your local program accepts this type of bio-plastic. If not, dispose of it in the trash as a last resort.
Decomposition Time
Bamboo Handle:
- Home Composting: Typically decomposes within 6 to 12 months
- Industrial Composting: Can decompose in about 4 to 6 months.
- Natural Environment: Decomposition can take between 6 months and 3 years, depending on environmental conditions.
- Landfills: Decomposition in a landfill can be significantly slower and can take several years.
Nylon-4 Bristles:
- Industrial Composting Facilities: Nylon-4 can degrade within 6 to 12 months under optimal conditions.
- Landfills and Natural Environments: Degradation is considerably slower, and it may take several years for the bristles to break down.
Floss Picks
To ensure eco-friendly disposal, please follow these steps:
- Municipal Compost: Our floss picks should be composted in an industrial composting facility, where they decompose faster under controlled conditions.
Decomposition Time
Floss Pick Handle:
- Industrial Composting: Decomposes within 3 to 6 months.
- Landfills: The decomposition rate is significantly slower in landfill environments, potentially taking several years due to anaerobic conditions.
Nylon-4 Thread:
- Industrial Composting Facilities: Nylon-4 can degrade within 6 to 12 months under optimal conditions.
- Landfills: Degradation in a landfill is slow, and it can take several years for the thread to break down significantly.
Note: The decomposition times can vary widely based on local environmental conditions and facility practices. We recommend using industrial composting for our floss picks to minimize environmental impact.
